Client: The Benefit Company, Bahrain
Industry sector: Fintech
Challenge: Customer Service Manager Bader was micromanaging his team out of a deep sense of responsibility and a fear of failure.
Solution delivered: Cultivate Leadership
Key results: A shift in approach has led to a more confident, less stressed team that now exceeds SLAs and KPIs with smoother workflows and faster problem-solving. With more focus on team development and targeted training, Bader also reports a significant reduction in stress, improved health, and a better work-life balance.
Bader battled to balance his strong sense of responsibility with the need to trust and empower his team. Having built the department from the ground up during the COVID-19 pandemic, he had taken on every aspect of team development – from training and tools to policies and performance monitoring. But the pressure to ensure success led to micromanagement, driven by his fear that something might go wrong. As a result, he struggled to truly listen to the team or trust in the systems and training he had put in place.
Rooted in Leadership Trust’s experiential methodology, the two residential projects placed Bader in a variety of different roles, each offering fresh insight into team dynamics and personal leadership. These real-world challenges pushed him beyond theory, instead helping him internalise leadership through action and reflection.
A key breakthrough came during a hands-on exercise when Bader realised the importance of delegation and perspective. He saw that trying to manage everything himself limited both his effectiveness and his team’s potential. Adopting the strategic ‘helicopter view’ helped him understand that leadership is not about control but about equipping and trusting others.
“And of course,” says Bader, "the coaching sessions I had opened my mind to things I didn’t even realise were bothering and stressing me, and guided me on how to remove these from my mind.”
"My managers see how my stress and worry is gone, and how my team make decisions now. Even senior leadership can see how I've empowered my team – even if I’m not there, they will handle almost any requirement."
Bader Buzaboon, Fintech
Bader has transformed how he leads – and how he lives – since completing the Cultivate Leadership programme.
Bader has endeavoured to actively trust his supervisors to handle tasks, stepping back to focus on the bigger picture. Delegation has become second nature where it used to be his biggest challenge, and his team now works with more autonomy, less stress, and faster problem-solving.
By setting clearer work/life boundaries, Bader has also reclaimed his health and energy. He has found he sleeps better, spends more time with family, and no longer lives in a cycle of stress.
Bader’s holistic transformation reinforces Leadership Trust’s belief that effective leadership begins with inner work which, in his case, entailed relinquishing control in favour of trust and connection. No longer reliant on micromanagement, he is able to step back and prioritise the bigger picture – both professionally and personally.
